What is Fostering?
Fostering is caring for a child or young person in your own home who is the responsibility of their Local Authority. Children and young people who live with HMG Foster Carers have many unique and diverse needs. These needs can lead to behaviour that is difficult and challenging and will require patience and understanding.
Some of our Foster Carers look after children and young people with special needs, both physical and educational, or children with long term illness. Sometimes Local Authorities look for Foster Carers to assess the parenting ability of a parent and their young child or baby, or to provide experienced advice and support to new parents who are struggling with parenting responsibilities.
“For me fostering a child or young person, taking them into your home, keeping them safe and nurturing them is saving a life.– Yvonne, HMG Foster Carer
It is an amazing thing to do.”
Help Me Grow Fostering needs Foster Carers for children and young people of all ages but has a greater need for Foster Carers of older children and young people in the South London area.
Children and young people may only stay for a short time or while decisions are made about their return home, or until they are able to live independent lives. If children and young people cannot return to their birth family, a successful placement may become permanent.
